President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday
said Nigeria under his leadership would continue to give the necessary supports to all efforts aimed at achieving political stability and maintaining peace in Africa.
According to a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, the President made the pledge while receiving special envoys of President Pierre Nkurunziza of Burundi inside the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The envoys, Maj.-Gen. Evariste Ndayishimiye and Ambassador Dieudonne Kwizera, briefed the President on recent political developments in Burundi.
Buhari said under his leadership, Nigeria would remain at the forefront of efforts to achieve enduring peace, security and progress in all African nations.
He said this was because whatever happens elsewhere in Africa affected Nigeria directly or indirectly.
“President Buhari declared that African leaders must all do their best to achieve greater peace, political stability and security within their countries so that they can give more attention to the urgent task of improving the living conditions of their people,” the statement added.
Buhari also expressed the hope that all stakeholders in Burundi would resolve their differences peacefully and learn to work together for the development of their country.
He welcomed ongoing efforts by Nkurunziza towards peace and national reconciliation in his country.
