Stop your attack on the APC members, Sylva’s team tell police

The Sylva-Igiri Campaign Organisation
of the All Progressives Congress in Bayelsa State has called on the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Nasiru Oki, to probe attacks on its members.
The Director, Media and Publicity, SICO, Chief Nathan Egba, fingered supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party as allegedly been responsible for the attacks on Tuesday.
Egba said during the attacks, four APC women and a driver of one of the trucks used to evacuate refuse at Amarata and Tombia areas of Yenagoa were attacked.
He also said the attackers set one of the trucks ablaze and smashed the windscreen of another truck.
He condemned in strong terms the unprovoked attacks unleashed on its members by suspected supporters of the PDP during the evacuation of refuse in different parts of Yenagoa.
Egba said, “The campaign team, therefore, calls on the State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Nasiru Oki, to bring to book those PDP supporters who attacked and injured no fewer than four APC women and a driver of one of the evacuating trucks.
“During the attacks which occurred at Amarata and Tombia areas of Yenagoa, one of the trucks was set ablaze and another’s windscreen was smashed.
“The women and youth wings of SICO were on a rescue mission to help the state government to perform one its statutory functions of clearing refuse at various dump sites when they were attacked.
“It is, therefore, unacceptable that apart from attacking the women, the attackers  burnt down one of our trucks at the Tombia dump site and smashed the windscreen of another truck at Amarata area of Yenagoa.”
Egba sympathised with all those that were injured and assured them of the party’s commitment to ensuring that they all get the best medical treatment.
He said the APC did not envisage any form of attack for volunteering to help clear garbage and waste that had overwhelmed Yenagoa metropolis.
He assured members of better security arrangements for their protection in the future.
Egba added, “This attack on innocent APC members is viewed as an attempt to provoke our members to violence but we have, and will continue to resist the temptation to retaliate all such confrontations.
“The second coming of Chief Timipre Sylva to office as Governor will surely bring relief and succour to our impoverished people.”
However, in his reaction to the allegation, the Director of Media and Publicity for Restoration Campaign Organisation, Jonathan Obuebite, denied all the claims of the opposition party, describing the story as entirely false and misleading.
Obuebite countered the claims of the APC, claiming that it was actually the APC supporters that attacked the Governor Seriake Dickson’s convoy.
“We are not troublemakers and we are not into violence like the APC. Their supporters attacked the Governor’s convoy on Tuesday. All the allegations of attacks on their members are entirely false and misleading,” he said.
